What Incense Should You Burn After Divorce?

Burning the Heart Sutra Tube Incense

According to China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs, in just the first three quarters of 2022, 1.643 million couples ended their marriages. The nationwide divorce rate that year reached 43.53%—meaning nearly one out of every two marriages ended in divorce. The numbers are sobering.

Ancient texts say: “If there were no debts from past lives, how could we meet in this one?” I agree with this. Without karmic ties, why do so many women laugh before marriage but cry afterward?

Every woman longs for happiness. But once happiness becomes routine, fatigue sets in. Without realizing it, she loosens her grip, and the man slips away.

For over 20 years, I’ve run the Destiny Mailbox (https://weibo.com/3979119649), where countless female readers have shared their struggles with divorce and breakups. As a professional fortune-teller, I can say that our birth charts hold hidden elements of marriage. Some couples quarrel constantly but still remain together into old age. Others cannot endure a husband’s infidelity and end up divorcing.

From the perspective of karmic destiny, I encourage women—especially after divorce—to let go of “small love” and embrace “great love.”

Small Love vs. Great Love

Many ask: what’s the difference? To me, it lies in whether or not one is free from the “three poisons” of greed, anger, and ignorance.

  • Small love is one-dimensional. A woman thinks: “I met you in this life, I loved you, but you betrayed me. You had an affair. That’s your fault.”
Women bound by small love refuse to take responsibility. They do not practice gratitude. They place all blame on men—from dating to marriage to divorce. They see themselves as “right” and men as “wrong.” With resentment in their hearts, they never think to burn the Heart Sutra Tube Incense after separation.
  • Great love is two-dimensional—spanning space and time. It recognizes that each person has many lifetimes. Your spouse today may have been your spouse in a past life—or even your enemy. In great love, you let go of resentment. You no longer share a bed, but you still wish the other well: “I will burn the Heart Sutra Tube Incense, repay my karmic debt, and release us both. Under the same sky, we each follow our own path of practice.”
Great love comes through spiritual cultivation. Not everyone is blessed enough to experience it.

After divorce, most people are influenced by family and friends. They support you emotionally, assuring you that you’re right and your ex is wrong. In such an atmosphere, no one suggests burning the Heart Sutra Tube Incense. Some women go their whole lives without it—until one day, they meet a spiritual teacher who opens their mind, teaching that clinging to the ego (“self-attachment”) is the true source of suffering.

Why Burn the Heart Sutra Tube Incense After Divorce?

  1. Purification of body and mind.
As the incense smoke rises, it cleanses your negative energy field. It dispels the residue of your ex-partner’s influence, allowing you to step forward into a new life.
  2. Letting go of the ego.
Burning incense is an act of great love. It means accepting spiritual guidance, releasing resentment, and forgiving the other person. Your ex is no longer your karmic debtor but a fellow traveler on the path. How beautiful is that? The Buddha said that women endure great suffering. After divorce, we should not allow hatred to take root and continue.

The incense itself is made with sacred powder. I use ritual methods to dedicate the story of the user to Guhyajnana Dakini (Kurukulle), a fierce yet compassionate deity. She understands your sorrow and will bless you. Of course, you are free to reject this blessing and refuse to burn the incense. That simply means you remain in ignorance, without wisdom.

Ritual Steps

  1. Purify yourself first. Take a bath before burning the incense.
  2. Prepare properly. Place the incense on a censer or altar table (do not use a dish—past devotees reported breakage).
  3. Light the incense.
  4. Join your palms. During the process, recall your entire relationship—meeting, joys, conflicts, and the breakup. Cry if you must. Let them be tears of gratitude.
  5. Conclude the ritual. Once the incense has burned out, wrap your ex’s photo, the ashes, and any related items in red or yellow cloth. Within 100 days, either bring them to a temple for burning or send them to a spiritual master for handling.

With the blessings of Guhyajnana Dakini, the Heart Sutra Tube Incense helps clear karmic obstacles. And I, Master Hung, extend my blessings to you.
