Another year passes quickly, and soon the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival will be here (between September 22 and October 20 on the solar calendar). In ancient China, the 7th, 8th, and 9th lunar months were called the “Three Autumns.” The 8th month is in the middle, so it is called “Mid-Autumn.”

Astronomers say the Mid-Autumn moon is the roundest and brightest of the year. On this night, families gather to worship the Moon Goddess, eat mooncakes, and celebrate reunion. Newlywed couples often offer pomelos, symbolizing hopes for children. At the same time, this day is also the Earth God’s birthday, when people traditionally offer peanuts, fruit, and taro to give thanks and pray for peace.

As the saying goes, “The fifteenth moon is fullest on the sixteenth.” This year, on the 16th day of the 8th lunar month, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., a special alignment appears: Peach Blossom Month, Peach Blossom Day, and Peach Blossom Hour — a rare and lucky time to make offerings for love.

Whether you are single, dating, married, or divorced, you can pray to the Moon Goddess to boost your romance luck.

1. What to Prepare

Offerings:

  • Grapes (symbolize children and descendants; avoid during Qingming and Ghost Festival)
  • Three cups of tea (do not use wine)
  • Three bowls of tangyuan (2 pieces each)
  • Mooncakes and sweets

Ritual items:

  • Three incense sticks
  • One pair of red candles
  • One set of “Moonlight Clothes” (paper garment offering)
  • A wish-prayer paper sheet
  • A love charm (e.g., moonstone bracelet or pendant, optional)

2. How to Worship the Moon Goddess

On the 14th, 15th, or 16th of the lunar month, after 8 p.m., wear black clothing (close-fitting is fine). Face the moon, place your offerings, light the candles and incense, and burn the “Moonlight Clothes.” Hold the love charm in your palms (if you have one), press your hands together, and read out the wish written on your prayer paper with sincerity.

Sample prayer format:

Moon Goddess above, I, [name], born on [date and time], originally from [hometown], now living at [address], make this wish on the 8th month of the Yisi year. I sincerely pray for… (state your wish). If my wish comes true, I promise to… (state your vow). Please bless me, Moon Goddess.

⚠️ Important: If your wish is granted, you must keep your promise.

Remember, true love cannot be forced. Some relationships are karmic debts — sometimes to repay, sometimes to collect. When the debt is settled, bonds may end. Staying together takes wisdom, but parting also takes wisdom.

Mid-Autumn Taboo: Avoid harsh words on this night — do not quarrel or insult others, even online. The full moon stands for two kinds of “completion”: family reunion and spiritual fulfillment.

Wishing you a joyful and blessed Mid-Autumn Festival!
